Women’s Woven Art provides employment and income for mainly illiterate women living in remote rural areas of East Timor. These women all run their own small business’s and are working for Economic Independence for themselves and their families.
They have a common desperate desire to be able to feed, clothe and educate their children. Training, orders and direct payments to the women for products is made by Women’s Woven Art. WWA creates local and export markets for their beautiful and unique product. Outlets include shops, galleries and museums in Dili and Australia. Women's Woven Art is a well recognized label in East Timor and Australia with a long standing reputation for fair trading, quality and a major commitment to vulnerable women in East Timor. Established in March 2004, we are steadily building a vital export market to create a long term sustainable Handicrafts Industry for the women of East Timor. Thank you for supporting Timorese women and our commitment to alleviating their poverty through your purchase of a unique and beautiful product made with love, care and pride by women in East Timor.
"TAIS" is the traditional cloth of East Timor woven for generations on simple wooden looms. From this women proudly hand craft scarves, shawls, wall hangings, hand bags, laptop computer bags, document satchels, cushion covers, tablecloths, napkins, placemats, bookmarks, dolls, handmade recycled paper cards, photos albums and frames. Many of our beautiful products can be hand washed though we recommend dry cleaning for"TAIS" bags and some special“TAIS” pieces.
